....although how that's possible I do not know. My Grandma does always tell me that it only gets faster the older you get, and I sure do believe that's true. Almost every time I write in my own personal journal I start with something like "so much has happened since the last time I wrote," and that's just how I feel as I write this. I will try to give a chronological review of what's been going on...
I am feeling Little One move now! I first felt the baby move on March 31 around 11:30am and this seemed to be a pattern of awake time! I thought for sure I felt it move on the outside this past weekend, but haven't been able to grab Gabe fast enough to let him feel the baby yet. I can tell that it has grown and I love feeling baby move around. If I don't feel it for a day or so at a time I find that I miss it. It is such an unusual and lovely feeling, I don't think I will ever tire of it. Sometimes I want to giggle when I am feeling it, but then I realize that it's only me that's feeling it. It's so unreal and beautiful and perfect.
Let me go back to Easter weekend, the beginning of April. Much to my delight we ended up being able to drive to Amarillo to visit my parents and attend my Dad's baptism. It was kindof a last minute thing that we were able to go, so we decided to make it a surprise and not tell them we were coming. We actually arrived at the house before they did and had to let ourselves in. We parked the car on the side so they wouldn't see it when they got home (Gabe's idea). When they got home they saw Duncan and were a bit confused as to why and who this extra dog was in their house. Burty was kinda looking at us in the back room wondering why we were hiding out back there, but when he decided to go see Grann and Gramps they realized what was going on and were very happy (and surprised) to see us there. On Sunday, April 3, Gabe talked to both of my parents about marrying me. I was so happy and appreciative that he asked for my father's blessing to marry me. And on top of that he included my Mom, which I thought was just wonderful. Later in the day Gabe asked me to marry him, and after lots of giggling I of course said yes! I thought it was neat that he asked me in Amarillo, and even in the house I grew up in. Doesn't get more special than that! ;-) It was such a perfect weekend - visiting with all of my grandparents, surprising my parents and attending my Dad's baptism, and getting engaged!
The following week I had an appointment with my doctor as well as another ultrasound. On April 9 at 20 weeks 6 days, I had my 3rd u/s. It's amazing how much Little One has grown since the last time, and it was even harder to see the baby on the screen because it was so much bigger. IDK how it has space in there! I got some more pictures of Little One. This time I got it recorded on VHS (who even has one of those any more?!) - really wish I had known I could do that before, but better late than never. We got a picture of Little One opening it's mouth and yawning! Oh how magical it is seeing him/her growing and living inside me! They took more measurements of the baby and I also received more test results and so far everything continues to look healthy. People still can't believe that I'm not finding out if the baby is a boy or a girl. It's funny how people go about guessing what it is. Some people have reasons, and others just get a "feeling." for the first few months everyone said they thought it was a boy (with reasons such as my lack of nausea or simply a gut feeling that they had); however, now almost everyone is saying they think it's a girl (most common reason being that I am carrying the baby low and wide). Guess in August we'll all find out. As my sister pointed out, the only way to know for sure is if it comes out and has a penis it's a boy, and if not, it's a girl. Oooohh the suspense!! ;-)
April 9 was also Burty's 6th birthday!! So hard to believe my little boy is growing up so fast! Like I said, time just keeps getting faster. Of course we went to the dog park for the weekend to let the boys celebrate and play for Burty's birthday. Addison's birthday is this Friday and she will be 3.
Today (April 28) I am 23 weeks and 4 days. I have had it on my to do list to take updated pictures of myself for some time now, but just haven't gotten around to doing it until today. It's too bad it's been so long since the last pictures I took, but the good thing about that is you can definitely tell Little One and I have both grown! Oh - I don't think I have announced the names we have chosen on here. We were able to announce them to my parents on Easter weekend, so now I can tell everyone else... We decided on Lathan Colt for a boy and Laithan Danielle for a girl. We have called the baby Little One from the very beginning, so Gabe suggested coming up with an "L" name. He found "Lathan" in the baby book and we both liked it right away. I have always liked names that can be used for a boy or a girl, so I decided we could keep Lathan for the girls name but will spell it Laithan. As for Danielle, it is my middle name (after my Dad's middle name, Daniel), and Gabe has always wanted to use that for our little girl. Colt was a name that we both liked when we started talking about names. So, although we continue to call the baby our Little One most of the time, he/she is also our Lathan/Laithan. Little One is now about 11 inches long and weighs about a pound!! Blood vessels are developing in the lungs to help prepare him/her for breathing. The baby's ears continue to develop and he/she is getting use to common sounds, such as Mommy and Papa's voice, and even the boys' howling and growling. This whole experience of being a Mommy is so amazing, indescribable, incredible, beautiful, and perfect!!
