update... the last straw ---> trying to change docs

i was prescribed a medicine by my obgyn for an infection, but when they called they said it was optional if i treat it or not. i decided to go for treating it, but after 1 dose got a little paranoid and decided to look for the medicine online. the medications website said do NOT take while you're pregnant. it had an alternative option to take during 2nd or 3rd trimester, of which i'm not in yet. so i call the ofc and talk to a nurse. she discusses with the doc and they say this is the safest kind of medication for this for pregnant women and sometimes the websites "just say that." they also strongly suggested treating it bc otherwise infection could spread to uterus and caused problems. i said "well that's interesting bc when y'alls office called to prescribe it they told me it was completely optional if i treat it or not." this nurse tells me that she doesn't know why they told me that bc that's not accurate and i should treat it. she did say it's ultimately up to me though, but what do i know? so i tell her i guess i just have to trust that the doctor is a doctor and she knows what's best so i used it, although i continued to have uneasy feelings about the whole situation.

this week the office calls me with "lab results" and when i call them back they tell me i'm anemic and need to take an otc iron supplement. now, it doesn't surprise me that i'm anemic, bc i often cannot donate blood bc of this. but why is she calling me with these results two weeks after she called and told me about the CF gene?! the iron test is an in-house blood work up with results that should have been provided within 24 hours. so because of them not telling me i have missed out on 2 weeks of the iron supplement. 2 weeks in a lifetime is not very long - but i have a very short time to give this little one the best start on life that i can, and in the scheme of pregnancy, 2 weeks is a big deal to me. i'm already feeling like i'm not doing the best job doing what i can (eating protein, exercising, etc.), the last thing i need is my doctor slacking off about something as simple as me taking an extra vitamin. so then the lady on the phone proceeds to start telling me that i'm a carrier of the CF gene. really?! so you think that almost 2.5 weeks after the blood work is done you think you're the first one telling me this?! they're obviously not keeping good enough records - she should have been able to look in a file and see the note that patent was called and notified. and the first person that called should have told me that i'm anemic.

that was the straw that broke the camels back here. my next apt. at that doc ofc is scheduled for 2/12 and i was to see the physicians assistant to try her out before dealing with switching records to another location. but i already do not trust the place, and started thinking - although i'm fine with not chit chatting with a doctor while i'm in labor, i need to at least be able to TRUST them, and at this point i am not trusting this doctor or her office employees. so i posted on facebook asking for referrals to other obgyns. most of the referrals people gave me happened to be pretty far away so i wasn't having much luck with that. i don't mind driving some, but also want the hospital to be somewhat convenient for gabe when the time comes because he is probably gonna have a hard enough time getting away from work as it is. one of my clients gave a glowing review about a doctor in the woodlands, which is not much different in distance than the ofc in tomball i'm at now. she said he is down to earth, chit chatty, keeps up with who you are and your family. i have to admit i preferred a female doctor for this sort of thing, but i am reminded that my pcp is a guy and i really like him and i continue to travel to his ofc regardless of where i move in houston bc he is down to earth, chit chatty, remembers me, etc. i also thought it was interesting that gabe and this client said the same thing about women doctors - they can be "judgemental," so gabe and my client both suggested a male obgyn. so maybe i'll give their office a call today and find out how to get all my information transferred over there.

i didn't get scheduled for an assessment this morning, so i used some of my comp time instead of going to see other daycare kids or doing work stuff. i figured it would be a great time for me to work on getting a new doctor and do some chores around the house. so i guess i'll close this up, go take my vitamins (including the IRON supplement), and get some chores done. hopefully my next note about doctors will be a good one....
